Is Amtrak Cutting Discounts?

An airline blog reported Dec. 8 that Amtrak plans to cut some long-established discounts this January:

  • The senior discount will be cut from 15 percent to 10 percent and the qualifying age will increase from 62 years to 65.
  • Discounts for AAA members and students will disappear completely.

As of Friday afternoon, Dec. 8, Amtrak PR has not replied to my call to verify the changes. But I trust the blog folks to be accurate. As soon as I hear, I’ll post.

You may have noticed that Amtrak’s weekly list of special promotional deals keeps getting shorter. Amtrak’s new CEO is a former exec at Delta. Don’t be surprised to see further downgrades.
