“Semi” High Speed News – India

India started serving the Delhi-Accra route with a 100-mph (160 kph) “semi-high-speed” train, the Gatimaan Express. The train also features other amenities designed to attract Taj Mahal visitors, including Wi-Fi and a meal service. As far as I can tell, this train uses the existing roadbed, and 100 mph is probably about as high as any train could do that route.
Officials say that this will be the first of a bunch of semi-high-speed links, including the four main lines that connect Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. But actual service will be years in the future. See the Indian Railways site
